' Five Guys..... Five hundred burgers '
Having seen a load of hype on other blogs about this new (in Britain) American fast food chain I just had to visit their newest store while on a shopping trip to Cardiff last month.
Situated in the Brewery Quarter , but the entrance is on Caroline Street , or more know as the locals Chippy Alley which is quite apt for a fast food venue.
Five Guys is all i thought it would be , bold brash and very American. The first thing you notice is the branding ,Red and white everywhere which is cool. Another thing is Potatoes. everywhere you look there are bags of potatoes and Five Guys ethos all over the walls, I like this, even though it was just something for me to read while waiting for my burger!
The menu choice is extensive, practically every burger you can imagine, oh and the toppings! This confused me a bit, but the server noticed quite quickly I was a newbie and guided me through. I went for a regular cheeseburger with all the toppings minus jalapenos and a side of five guys fries. Taste wise the burger was good, much more rustic than a normal fast food burger and somehow felt much more 'beefy.' The fries however were delicious, cooked in peanut oil they were crispy , crunchy and down right scrumptious.
Now i have to mention the drinks, these were a experience in themselves. Milkshakes ( which looked divine) are made by the staff but you help yourself to the drinks. served from a super modern touch screen dispenser you can practically have any drink you want. Choose any Coca Cola Company drink and choose a flavour. Cherry , Lemon, Vanilla, Lime , Orange.... You name it they had it. i went for a safe Cherry Diet Coke.
I wouldn't agree with Five Guys motto 'Heaven in a paper bag,' as the food was just Fast and Fresh and not much more. Visit for the experience, its great and the service, even better.

Angel , Llandeilo
'For Ladies who...Gossip!'
After a mid week appointment with the Bridal Shop Huw Rees, the bride and us the bridesmaids headed over to The Angel for a bite to eat and a gossip about the dresses we had just tried on. Gushing with exitment we were seated very quickly and a friendly waitress took out drinks order. The restaraunt and bar was busy for a Wednesday night in November, but none the less the staff gave us plenty of attention and were friendly throughout our meal.
The Angel is very warm and welcoming, and the wedding photos ontthe wall are fasicnating, very approprtate for our 'Wedding Planning, Talk'

Cawdor Hotel Llandeilo
Cawdor Hotel Llandeilo
‘ A Perfect Afternoon
Treat’
As per usual my birthday landed on a rainy day in
September. We had planned to go for a
picnic, but decided to head out for afternoon tea to escape getting wet.
We wanted a bit more than a cup of tea and cake, so I gave
the Cawdor Hotel in Llandeilo a call and tried to book a table for later that
day.
When phoning I was told they don’t take bookings for
Afternoon Tea, and it was served everyday between 3pm and 6pm. Not a problem we
headed out and arrived about 4pm.
When we arrived, The
hotel restaurant was busy with the last few tables for Sunday Lunch and the bar
/ lounge area was fairly full with couples enjoying a lazy Sunday drink and
families catching up over a cup of coffee.
We found a table next to the window, and the atmosphere was
very relaxed and cosy.
As we were specifically looking to have afternoon tea, we
did not take much notice of the bar menu.
For £7.95 per person, Afternoon Tea at the Cawdor Hotel was
amazing value for money. The choice was also outstanding. For that price each
person had a pot of tea a choice of Sandwich, Cake, one welsh cake a Shortbread
Biscuit and a Scone with Jam and Cream.
I choose Prawn with Marie sauce sandwich on brown bread, and
my first thought was WOW! It was huge. The bread was fresh and soft, but a
little on the thick side and maybe not enough sauce, but the salad garnish was
delicious. My partner had the beef sandwich which he really enjoyed.
The plate of cakes would have most certainly served a family
of four, so we both felt a bit greedy tucking into it ourselves, but it was
worth every crumb. The welsh cake was fresh and tasty while the shortbread
biscuit was crunchy and obviously home made. I was served two slices of Carrot
Cake , which was lovely and moist and the cream cheese topping was divine. My
partner had the Chocolate and Rum cake, which was a bit on the dry side, but a
smaller portion might have compensated this.
My favourite had to be the Scone Jam and Cream, a massive
scone filled with raisins and lashings of Jam and Clotted Cream, two words, YUM
YUM!
To drink, between us we had a large pot of tea which was
enough for four large cups, brewed perfectly and just the thing to warm you up
on a cold Sunday Afternoon.
For £7.95 this is a perfect treat for the family or a great way
to spend a relaxed Sunday Afternoon. I will definitely be returning I just hope
it will be sooner than my next Birthday!
Afternoon Tea at the Cawdor Hotel Llandeilo As you can see the portions are huge!

I’m a typical foodie with a love for cakes and tea. Good food usually reflects a good atmosphere and to me this makes the perfect find.
